GOOD
TURF MANAGEMENT
BEGINS WITH:
TURFSHIELD
Label Information
TurfShield Enhances Turf Growth
By adding the preventative
biological fungicide TurfShield™ to your Turf
Management Program, you create a healthy,
vigorous turf and shut the door on root
pathogens with one product. TurfShield grows
right along with the root system, forming a
"TurfShield Barrier", giving your turf roots an
increase in nutrients and moisture as well as
enhanced growth and a greener turf. Many current
fungicides are including a resistance management
program on their label. They state, "to preserve
usefulness of their products, avoid making more
than two consecutive applications of the same
fungicides". Because of the various ways the
active ingredient in TurfShield enhances root
growth and prevents diseases, resistance will
not develop. Thus, a good disease management
program would be to use a "curative" fungicide,
if problems exist, followed by TurfShield for a
one-two punch for disease control.
The active ingredient in
TurfShield aggressively grows on the turf roots
and blocks invading pathogens (Pythium,
Rhizoctonia, Fusarium and Sclerotinia) from
attacking the root. TurfShield is the first
EPA-registered biological fungicide for golf
course greens, tees and fairways. TurfShield
contains the highly effective active ingredient
Trichoderma harzianum Strain T-22, a beneficial
fungus with root growth enhancing properties.
Developed at Cornell University, and
manufactured by BioWorks, TurfShield will grow
on the turf roots prohibiting the attack of root
pathogens while minimizing environmental
stresses to your turfgrass.
TURFSHIELD
BENEFITS?
-
Healthier and greener turf with a
protective barrier against root fungal
pathogens.
-
Minimizes environmental plant stresses.
-
Increases turf health and improves
overall durability of greens, tees and
fairways.
-
Improves stand establishment on new
seedings and turf recovery.
-
Fully compatible with other beneficial
organisms to improve soil environment.
-
Compatible with all fertilizers,
insecticides, herbicides, growth
regulators and most fungicides.
-
0-hour re-entry interval, safe for
workers, golfers, athletes and wildlife.
TURFSHIELD LIMITATIONS?
-
TurfShield is not a "Cure-All" or a
"Silver Bullet". It will not compensate
for inadequate cultural practices such
as poor sanitation, over-or
under-fertilization, or poor or
non-uniform irrigation practices.
-
Limited control under high disease
pressures…Continue with standard
chemicals.
-
Has limited control against Phytophthora
diseases.
TURFSHIELD USES AND RATES:
SPRING:
- Apply 2.0 lb/M when turf becomes active
(soil temperatures above 48°F) or soon after
aerification and sprigging. Apply 1.0 lb/M
approximately 4 weeks later.
- Aids with preventative control of
root rot diseases such as dollar spot,
Rhizoctonia, etc.
- Promotes good root growth, which
aids in nutrient and moisture uptake.
- Improves overall turf quality and
durability
SUMMER:
- Apply 1.0 - 2.0 lb/M approximately 8 -
10 weeks after the last spring application.
If over-seeding, mix 2.0 lb of TurfShield
with 100 lb. of seed.
- Promotes extended root colonization
and protection.
- Protects seedlings against Pythium
root rot and aids in faster
establishment.
- Promotes root growth, enlarges root
mass and turf density.
- Aids in the availability of
nutrients to the turf.
FALL:
- Apply 1.0 - 2.0 lb/M approximately 4
weeks before fall dormancy or 8 - 12 weeks
after the last application.
- Continued root colonization and
protection.
- Promotes root growth, better root
structure.
- Hardens the turf to reduce the risk
of winter die-back.
- Promotes quicker turf growth after
transition.
